This is an ongoing, thoughtfully curated interior design project for a beautiful countryside home in Bealings, Suffolk, designed to bring warmth, character, and understated elegance to every space.
Drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscape and the timeless charm of English country homes, the interiors have been layered with texture, natural materials, and carefully selected furnishings to create a home that feels both refined and deeply welcoming.
The client brief
The clients wanted to create a home that felt calm, inviting, and connected to its rural setting while still offering a sense of sophistication and comfort. Although the property had beautiful proportions and plenty of character, the interiors lacked cohesion and did not fully reflect the way the family wanted to live.
The brief centred around creating a timeless country house aesthetic with a relaxed and lived-in feel. The clients were drawn to warm neutral tones, natural textures, layered fabrics, and classic design details that would enhance the property's character without feeling formal or overly traditional.
Functionality was equally important, with spaces needing to work effortlessly for family life, entertaining guests, and quiet everyday living.
The design approach
My approach focused on creating interiors that felt authentic to both the property and its countryside surroundings. I developed a layered scheme using earthy tones, soft neutrals, natural timber finishes, and tactile fabrics to bring warmth and depth throughout the home.
Carefully sourced furnishings, decorative lighting, bespoke details, and curated accessories were combined to create rooms that feel collected over time rather than newly designed. Inspired by the enduring appeal of English country house interiors, the scheme balances elegance with comfort, resulting in spaces that feel relaxed, welcoming, and timeless.
Particular attention has been paid to flow and continuity, ensuring each room feels connected while retaining its own unique character and purpose.
One of my favourite design choices in this entrance hall was the opportunity to blend old and new. Although the house is a new build, it incorporates reclaimed materials throughout to create a sense of age and rustic character. I wanted the interiors to reflect that same balance, so I sourced antique furniture and carefully refinished each piece to feel relevant for modern living while preserving its original craftsmanship and charm. The result is a space that feels collected and authentic rather than newly constructed.
I also particularly enjoyed curating the artwork for this area. I am especially drawn to the joyful, atmospheric landscapes of Claire Oxley, and selected this piece for its soft colours and sense of light, which bring warmth and calm to the entrance. To create contrast and interest, I paired it with a portrait by contemporary British artist Tom Coates, displayed in an antique frame.
The combination of abstract and figurative work, alongside contemporary and traditional elements, reinforces the dialogue between old and new that runs throughout the house. Together, these pieces help establish the character of the home from the moment you walk through the door.
The results
Although the project is still in progress, the completed spaces already embody the warm, layered, and timeless aesthetic envisioned at the outset. The interiors feel welcoming, sophisticated, and deeply connected to both the property and its countryside setting.
I continue to work closely with the clients as the home evolves, developing room-by-room schemes, sourcing furnishings and accessories, and refining the interiors over time. This phased approach allows each space to be thoughtfully considered and curated, ensuring the home develops organically while remaining cohesive throughout.
As the project continues, each new phase builds upon the established design language, creating a home that feels beautifully curated, highly functional, and uniquely personal to its owners.
